Beautiful outdoor wedding at the Station House Hotel

The Station House Hotel is a magical place in the late summer and we were blessed with good weather for Leanne and Eamonn's outdoor wedding. Having two photogrpahers meant Lorraine met up with the bride in the Station House while Denis travelled out to Eamonn's house for the morning preparations.

Back at the Station House the guests were arriving and gathering at the turntable for the outdoor ceremony. The turntable has to be one of the most beautiful locations for an outdoor ceremony. Surrounded by trees and steeped in history it provides the perfect backdrop for a wedding.

The ceremony was performed by the wonderful Mary Losty of Spiritual Ceremonies who we've had the pleasure of working with many times.

After the cermony it was back to the hotel for a chilled relaxed drinks reception in the glorious sunshine where the guests were treated to drinks and canapes while we took the opportunity to get the family pics done.

The beauty of the Station House is the gorgeous grounds in front of the hotel. The woods and little pathways provides the perfect location to bring the bridal party for some photos without taking them away from their guests for too long.

The outdoor drinks reception was the perfect place to do the speeches before dinner. The guests stood around with their drinks which made the speeches informal and relaxed. More importantly it made them fun with lots of laughter and slagging.

After the speeches the guests sat down to dinner in the gorgeous Carriage Suite which was recently decorated. Once the meal finished the band set up for the dancing. While that was happening we brought the happy couple outside for a night shot in front of the old Signal Box which is now the stunning and unique bridal suite.

A fab day at the wonderful Ballymagarvey Village, one of Ireland's premiere wedding venues.

Fiona and Shane tied the knot on a wet day in the middle of summer but that didn't stop them and their guests having a fantastic day. The morning began in Ballymagarvey with Fiona and the girls getting ready at the venue. The advantage to having two photographers meant Lorraine could stay with the girls while Denis went on to Shane and the lads who were getting ready in Navan.

With Shane being a big hurling fan we had time to stop off at the local pitch to pull on a few sliotars before heading on to the venue. Once there we met up with the celebrant, Joe Armstrong. Now Joe is a great man to go through the fine details with the groom, even down to practicing the ring exchange. Of course not having a bride to practise with, he roped in the singer, the wonderful Laura Colgan to stand in for Fiona.

Another advantage of having two photographers at your wedding is our ability to capture two different angles during your ceremony. You get to see moments that a single photographer just cannot capture.

Luckily we got a break in rain and the bride and groom along with their bridal party came outside for a few fun photos in the stunning grounds of the venue.

Then it was time to head back into the stunning banquet hall which Fiona and Shane personalised with their own touches. Shane is a huge Bob Dylan fan, so the tables were named after his favourite Bob Dylan albums. The couple framed LPs and put them on small wooden easels in the centre of the tables. Their sweet wedding favours were CDs with some of their favourite songs. They used single LPs with a personalised sticker as placemats.

The great Lockdown!

The COVID19 Lockdown

Who could have foreseen what happened this year?

Everything came to a halt overnight including weddings and with that, our photography business. Our couples started postponing weddings until later in the year or into next year leaving us with a lot of spare time.

Of course it wasn't just us, everyone was affected including our good friends in Irish Balloon Flights who had to cancel all their flights for the foreseeable future. Not ones to sit around doing nothing, Pauline & Malcolm decided to put their other skills to good use. Being in the hot air balloon business they also service and maintain their own balloons along with balloons from all over the country. To that end, they have a small industrial sewing operation and using their skills, decided to start making reusable face masks.

Of course making a good quality mask is one thing, but displaying them properly on a website is another and this is where we came in.
Despite his best efforts, Malcolm just couldn't get a decent photo of the masks. It's never as easy as it looks so we offered to help.

We took on photographing the masks both individually and in groups to display on their website. We haven't done any product photography in quite a while so it was nice to get back to this kind of set up. The last products we shot were shiny plastic bags which themselves are a challenge - try making a plastic bag look sexy :-)

The trick with product shots is getting the white balance correct, reproducing the colours faithfully and being able to repeat the process consistently. We had to be able to reproduce a consistent set of images each time they had a new design of mask.

Have to say it was great fun doing these and it gave us a chance to refresh our product photography skills which took a back seat over the last while as we've been very busy with weddings and hopefully we'll be back at them fairly soon.

Speaking of weddings, Irish Face Masks did come up with a few designs specifically for bride and grooms. More of a fun item, they are ideal for a few quirky photos for anyone getting married during this period.

A summer wedding at Culmullen Church & Knightsbrook Hotel

A beautiful sunny day in May saw Ciara and Shane tie the knot in the gorgeous Culmullen Church near Drumree and just a short drive from Trim. Culmullen has to rank as one of the most beautiful intimate churches in Ireland which is why it's so popular with couples. Inside, the natural stone walls and stained glass windows provide the perfect setting for a wedding ceremony.

Anyway, onto the day as it unfolded and Lorraine started off with the girls in Dunshaughlin while Denis headed off to the lads in Kells.

Even Dad gave a dig out with the final touches :-)

On to the church in Culmullen where the lads had a beautiful vintage Masearti.

After the ceremony the Bride and Groom headed back to Trim to the Knightsbrook Hotel and they did it in style!

One thing we love about Knightsbrook is the little Secret Walled Garden across the golf course. It's a beautiful secluded location and ideal for some nice bride and groom protraits.

A quick spin on the golf cart and we were back over to the hotel to mingle with guests before heading in for dinner.

After a quick photo beside the fabulous chandalier in the lobby, we headed outside to the lake for a moonlight photo.

The fabulous Clonabreany House, Crossakiel, Co. Meath provided the setting for Danann and Daniel's June wedding. Of course the Irish summer gave us a mixture of glorious sunshine and heat interspersed with heavy downpours, but we were lucky enough to get outside for a few photos in between the showers.

Clonabreany House is an exclusive Georgian country estate set amid breath taking Meath countryside, offering truly unique and bespoke weddings and we are lucky enough to have it as one of our local venues. You can see why Danann and Daniel chose it as their wedding venue.

The stunning Knightsbrook Hotel was the veneue for Elaine and Ciaran's summer wedding and yet again we were blessed with good weather. I think our Child of Prague must be worn out at this stage. Anyway, Lorraine headed to the bride and the girls that morning to capture the preparaions where Anne Marie worked her make up magic while Denise Bray looked after the hair.

While Lorraine was with the girls, Denis met up with the groom in Knightsbrook before heading over to the Church, St. Dymphna's in Kildalkey.

Denise putting her final touches to Elaine's hair before her Dad's first look at his daughter. After the ceremony in Kildalkey we headed back to Trim and stopped at the Castle for some photos. We are really lucky to have such a beautiful location for bridal party photos right on our doorstep. Even Ciaran got in on the act :-)

Then is was up the road to the hotel for the drinks reception and a glass of bubbly.

Being a summer wedding we even had time after dinner to go outside to the fabulous grounds around the hotel and grab a couple of nice photos on the bridge.

What a fantastic day we had with these two and their familes and friends. They rocked the dancefloor all night to the lively tunes by their band, Eden, led by local singer Kevin Farrell.

A summer wedding at Trim Castle Hotel

What a fab day we had with Kelly Ann and Michael in our home town of Trim. We're blessed with such a fantastic venue, Trim Castle Hotel, in the centre of town and the wonderful Trim Castle across the road. With both the bride and groom getting ready in the hotel we had to make sure they didn't bump into each other before the ceremony. Speaking of which, what a magnificent view the guests have during the ceremony overlooking the grounds of St. Patrick's Church and the Castle. Then of course after the ceremony, it's just a short walk over to Trim Castle and the lovely colourful houses on Castle Street for a few photos. At least the happy couple don't have to go missing for hours for photos during the day and can get back to mingling with their guests during the drinks reception. Of course Michael and Kelly Ann were such a fun couple that we just had great craic with them all day. We even managed to get a nice golden sunset on the roof top balcony that evening before the dancing started.

Durhamstown Castle Autumn Wedding

An autumn wedding at Durhamstown Castle.

One of the hidden gems in Co. Meath is the fabulous Durhamstown Castle in Bohermeen, near Navan. Run by Sue & Dave Prickett, it is one of Ireland's oldest continuously inhabited castle and it makes for a fabulous wedding venue at any time of year.

Roisín and Tim planned their wedding with an autumn theme so the castle was well suited with the old shed getting a makeover to host it's first ceremony. Lots of straw bales, ivy and storm damaged tree branches transformed the shed into a stunning wedding ceremony location.

The girls enjoyed a few glasses of bubbly while getting ready. Meanwhile, the groom tried to hang the best man.

Some details in the wonderful barn. We love the whole rustic look to the place and Roisín and Tim decorated it beautifully.

Their colour scheme and style was drop dead gorgeous.

Another wonderful wedding at Boyne Hill House

Boyne Hill House Summer Wedding.

One of our favourite wedding venues is the fabulous Boyne Hill House on the banks of the River Boyne in Co. Meath. Set in 38 acres of stunning gardens and parklands, this picturesque country house estate becomes your very own exclusive venue on your big day. We had the pleasure of being part of Louise and Ruadhrí's big day back in July and what a fantastic day it was.

Their morning preparations began with Lorraine heading to Louise and Denis meeting up with Ruadhrí. One of the benefits of having two photographers is that both the bride and groom's morning preparations are covered. Once ready we headed to the venue for a beautiful outdoor ceremony in the Secret Garden. The Secret Garden has to rank as one of the most beautiful locations to hold a wedding ceremony. From the entrance through the iron gate, down the stone steps and into the stunning gardens, it really is an amazing setting which makes your wedding ceremony even more memorable.

After the ceremony it was back up to the old house for the drinks reception and some gorgeous finger food. This gave us time to take the bridal party back down to the secret garden for some photos. The beauty of a venue like Boyne Hill House is that everything is close by so we didn't need to bring Louise and Ruadhrí away from their guests for too long. In no time at all they were back to mingle at the drinks reception and enjoy some of the delicious canapes and bubbly.

Dinner was called around 6pm and one thing the Boyne Hill House is famous for, is the quality of the food and yet again it didn't disappoint. After the meal the crowd was entertained by one of the liveliest wedding bands around, Till Death Do Us Party, and they kept the dance floor full late into the night.

Stationhouse Hotel outdoor wedding in December?

One popular topic of conversation in Ireland is the weather and it's usually about how cold, wet and miserable it is. So when Suzanne and Darragh decided to have an outdoor wedding in the month of December, people must have thought they were nuts, or at least very optimistic. However their optimism paid off, and the first week in December saw temperatures hit 15 and 16 degrees with bright sunshine and no rain. Now we are of course talking about 2016 and not this year! This year the weather was baltic and there wasn't a hope of having an outdoor wedding.

Anyway, back to last December and Suzanne and Darragh's wedding in the charming Stationhouse Hotel, which is one of our favourite local venues. Nestled in the heart of the County Meath countryside, the converted railway station provides an ideal location for a wedding, including the ceremony which takes place where the old turntable once stood.

Sean and Karolin at Martinstown House

The July weather didn't bode too well for Seán and Karolin's planned outdoor ceremony at Martinstown House. As we left Trim that morning to head to Kildare, the rain was pelting down but by the time we got there it had stopped. Karolin was determined to have her civil ceremony outside in the walled garden and thankfully the weather decided to cooperate. This was our first wedding in Martinstown and both Seán and Karolin were getting ready at the venue.
The big log outside on the lawn was the ideal place to photograph wedding rings with the house as a backdrop.
We loved this personal touch - little Chilli plants at each place setting for the guests to take home and plant. Seán was delighted with his gift from Karolin. Karolin getting a helping hand with the dress from mum. A few last minute words of advice for the groom from Dad. The lads leaving the house for the ceremony. Karolin checking if the coast is clear before making her way downstairs. Karolin and her Dad making their way to the ceremony. A little tear is allowed........ What a gorgeous setting for a wedding ceremony. The whole day was filled with laughter, including the ceremony itself. I think Seán forgot his words :-) Walking back down the aisle as a married couple. With such a gorgeous setting, we didn't have to go too far for photos. The gate into the walled garden was the perfect backdrop for this relaxed couple. The guests played lots of outdoor games on the lawn in lovely sunshine. Some of them were making giant bubbles and this one floated in front of the house giving a perfect reflection. The venue served up a great selection of canapés while the guests mingled on the lawn. Giant Jenga is always a popular favourite. My kind of cake........real cheese During the speeches the gifts raised a few laughs. Sean and Karolin's first dance as a married couple. I don't think I've seen a dance floor as packed after the first dance.

Michelle and Aidan's Wedfest. What a fun wedding!

When the bride decides she's going to wear wellies, you know you're in for a fun filled wedding.

Michelle and Aidan are not ones for doing things the "normal" way. Both of them are very much into their music festivals so music and wellies were bound to feature in their big day. And so Wedfest was born..........
For us as the photographers, it was an early start, especially as we'd just photographed a wedding the previous day which didn't finish until nearly midnight. That didn't give us much time to recharge batteries, clear cards and try grab a few hours sleep before making our way to Thurles for 8.30 in the morning. One of the advantages of hiring two photographers is that Lorraine got to stay with Michelle and cover her morning preparations while I drove on to Dungarvan in Waterford to catch up with Aidan for his preparations.

Once we finished at Aidan's it was a mad dash back up to the stunning Holycross Abbey near Thurles for the ceremony at 1pm. Holycross really is a beautiful venue and Michelle had the church decorated beautifully.

One of our clients, Ciarán Foy, is a personal trainer with his own private gym in Swords, Co. Dublin. Ciarán has an exciting new programme coming shortly aimed at Brides and Grooms who would like to get into shape before their wedding day. Without going into the details, we spent a day making a video with Ciarán at his gym. So while I did the videos, Lorraine, my Creative Director :-) was busing taking some photos in the background.

Prince Mason comes to Tallaght

Mason is a Prince for a day.

Sometimes a special boy touches many people's hearts.

Today Mason touched ours........

So who is Mason? Well he's a little boy from Gorey, Co. Wexford who happens to have Cystic Fibrosis, a wonderful sister Holly and two fantastic parents, Claire and Stephen. Turns out he also has a multitude of people who love him to bits and are prepared to go that extra mile to make him feel special.

So why are we writing about him here?

Well we got a call from an old friend wondering if we'd be free to take a few photos of this little boy who was going to be treated like a Prince for a day. Of course we said yes, and next we found ourselves battling through the early morning traffic to get to The Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght for 9.00 am. Naturally as is befitting a Prince, a huge stretch limo rolled up, complete with Garda escort and out stepped our little hero.

Now when you're a Prince you get everything you want so Mason had Spiderman push him around while TV3 filmed him for the News!

So with the help of Spiderman and Batman we went shopping in Tesco - as you do. Now to be fair, Tesco really went all out on this one. They provided two shopping trollies for Mason and Holly to fill as they please and I think the children were overawed by the choice of toys on offer. Still they managed to fill the trollies with the help of Batman and Spiderman

Of course all that shopping makes you hungry so nothing for it only a trip to Domino's Pizza. None of your normal ordering a pizza here! No, we had the expert help of Holly who could throw dough like an expert dough thrower......

After the food we went back into The Square for the presentation of the awards to Mason and Holly. We also had the small matter of a €3,000 cheque from The Square made payable to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland which was presented on behalf of Mason.

So what is Cystic Fibrosis?

Well it primarily affects the lungs and digestive system of those who are unfortunate enough to be affected by it;

It clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend primary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments, including in Ireland, have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease in Ireland can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond. People with CF in Ireland are increasingly going on to attend third level colleges, accessing employment, and living more independent lives, with the support of family and friends.

So we weren't really expecting much from Mason especially after all the excitement of the morning. How wrong we were! He got to play football on the hallowed turf of Shamrock Rovers and even got to score a goal or two.

After the football we got to meet the Chairman of Shamrock Rovers who presented Mason and Holly with two jerseys and then it was back over to The Square for more shopping. I couldn't list off all the shops we visited as there were too many. However I will say that staff in those shops we did get to were amazing. The kids got to choose everything from toys to personalised runners and jerseys, sweets, clothes - you name it. And all given free to help make Mason and Holly's day so special. Of course Claire and Stephen weren't forgotten either as they picked up some gorgeous hampers along the way.

In between all the hustle and bustle there was always time for a little quiet moment between Mason and Stephen................

I said earlier that I couldn't mention all the people in The Square who helped make Mason's day so special but I couldn't NOT mention the one person who made it all happen. Forget Spiderman and Batman, Antony Dempsey is the real super hero. Antony has been involved with fund raising for Cystic Fibrosis for many years now and without him this never would have happened. He pulled everyone together from the Garda escorts, the Limo company, The Square and all the shops and of course the staff who stayed with us for the day. Everyone was amazing and they made the day very special for little Mason and his big sister Holly.

I'm not quite sure how they managed to fit all the gifts they picked up, into the limo to bring them home. Just as well it was a big limo.......

Rose Kenny celebrates her 50th Birthday

A celebration that nearly didn't happen

What's so special about a birthday celebration you might ask? In most cases nothing except they are important to the people involved and their immediate family. However, sometimes a really special one crops up and in this case we at Denlo Photography were privileged to be part of it.

Actually this one was a double celebration - Rose on her 50th birthday and her mother Jenny on her 80th. Again nothing too special about a double celebration except this one may never have taken place. Just a few short months ago Rose Kenny was viciously assaulted in an unprovoked attack as she left her home for work. The attack made the headlines on the news and in the papers and Rose was left fighting for her life. Despite the horrendous injuries she suffered Rose being the strong woman she is, managed to pull through and make a full recovery.

So we were delighted to be there on the night to capture some of the celebrations.

This guy was a special guest at the celebrations. Noel Curley was getting out of his car to start work at the scene of the horrific attack on Rose. He was first on the scene and with a few towels he was able to stem the bleeding from Rose's wounds until the Paramedics arrived.
He saved her life.......

And finally there was Jamie, Roses's beautiful daughter who organised the celebration and what a fantastic job she did. From the cakes to the flowers, the banners, the balloons and the photos hanging around the dance floor - the place looked magnificent.

A huge turnout on the night by friends and family helped make this special occasion a night to remember and we wish Rose all the best for the future.

Lovely hand written Thank You card

A hand written thank you card from the happy couple.

In these days of texting, e-mail, messaging, skype and all the other means of communication at our disposal, it's so nice to receive a message the old fashioned way. Even though you may sign your e-mails and send them directly to your recipient's inbox, it's not the same as getting a real paper envelope with your name and address written in pen and a colourful stamp stuck in the top right corner.

Once opened the envelope reveals it's contents - a beautiful personalised hand written Thank You card from the Bride and Groom.

I loved this little wedding car which the Groom had brought home all the way from Kosovo. Of course it wasn't all plain sailing as there were running repairs to be done on the wedding day.

However, once McGyver worked his magic with the duct tape, we were ready for the road trip to Ballintubber Abbey.

What a send off the groom gets from the neighbours in this part of Mayo! Bonfires at the side of the road to wish the happy couple well.
